barbara walters archives sarah lawrence gi Barbara Walters is donating her archives to one lucky collegeSarah Lawrence College students learned they were in for a treat when Barbara Walters took to the stage for their commencement speech on May 23. The retired “The View” host and 1951 Sarah Lawrence graduate revealed she will be donating all of her archives to the college.

“When I attended Sarah Lawrence, there was a wonderful professor … Joseph Campbell. And what he told us and what he hoped we would remember was ‘to follow our bliss,'” Walters says in her speech, via The Journal News.  “I have to tell you that when I left Sarah Lawrence, I had no idea what my ‘bliss’ was. So if you are like me and you have no idea what your ‘bliss’ is, get a job. I promise you that bliss will come.”

Walters will send a collection of the photographs, recordings and papers she’s gathered throughout her career to her alma mater. Lawrence says in response, “We are thrilled by this new gift from our extraordinary alumna so that her legacy can be shared with students, scholars and beyond.”
