barbara walters the view goodbye oprah winfrey Barbara Walters' 'View' goodbye: Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton and more stop by to wish her wellBarbara Walters said goodbye to “The View” Friday (May 16) with a string of A-list guests in Hillary Clinton, Michael Douglas and Oprah Winfrey, then ending with a special surprise for the legendary newswoman.

Hillary Clinton joined in first and advised Walters to “take a vacation” once she’s done with “The View,” if even for just a week. But then Michael Douglas took a different stance: “If Hillary runs, I think you’d be a great vice president.” He also called her “an extraordinary person, inside and out.”

Oprah Winfrey had a heart-felt message for Walters: “Like everyone else, I want to thank you for being a pioneer and everything that that word means — it means being the first. The first in the room, to knock down the door, to break down the barriers, to pave the road that we all walk on. I thank you for that. I thank you for the courage it took every day to get up and keep doing it. … You’re the reason why we’re all here, you’re the reason why I wanted to be in television.”

Then the show surprised Walters with a line of dozens of female journalists, including Joan Lunden, Connie Chung, Natalie Morales, Savannah Guthrie, Diane Sawyer, Meredith Vieira, Jane Pauley, Lisa Ling and many, many more.

Walters ended the show with, “How proud I am when I see all the young women who are making and reporting the news. If I did anything to help that happen, that’s my legacy.”
