bloodhound westminster kennel club dog show 2014 2014 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show night one results: Hound, toy, non sporting and herding groupsTime to kick off the annual aww-fest that is the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in Madison Square Garden. The 138th year features three new breeds: the Chinook (working group), the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno (hound group) and the Rat Terrier (terrier group).

Night one kicked off Monday (Feb. 10) with the hound, toy, non-sporting and herding dogs and here’s how the competition shook out:

Hound Group:

The dogs brought out specially are the Basset, 13-inch Beagle, Bloodhound, Wire-haired Dachshund, Greyhound, Norwegian Elkhound, the Irish Wolfhound and the Whippet, with the Top 4 the Bloodhound, Whippet, Basset and the Irish Wolfhound. That means Nathan the Bloodhound (above) goes on to Best in Show Tuesday night (Feb. 11).

Toy Group:

The dogs are the Affenpinscher, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, English Toy Spaniel, Miniature Pinscher, Pekingese, Pomeranian, Pug and Shih Tzu. The Top 4 are named as the Miniature Pinscher, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Pomeranian and Pekingese, which means Classy the “Min Pin” is heading to Best in Show. Classy is the top-winning “Min Pin” in the history of the breed.

Non-Sporting Group:

The dogs brought down for the non-sporting dogs are the Bichon Frise, Chinese Shar-Pei, Dalamatian, French Bulldog, Miniature Poodle, Standard Poodle, Shiba Inu and Tibetan Spaniel. The Top 4 are the Standard Poodle, Tibetan Spaniel, Miniature Poodle and Dalmatian, with Ally the Standard Poodle winning Best in Group. This is Ally’s retirement show, as she has over 100 Best in Shows under her belt.

Herding Group:

The dogs singled out from the herding group are the Border Collie, Bouvier des Flandres, Canaan, Cardigan Welsh Corgi, German Shepherd, Old English Sheepdog, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Puli and Pyrenean Shepherd, with the Top 4 being the Cardigan, Puli, German Shepherd and Old English. The Best in Show-bound dog is named as Coco the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, which is the first time the breed has been named to Best in Group at Westminster.

Tune in Tuesday, Feb. 11 starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT on USA for the final three groups (sporting, working and terrier) and the Best in Show final.
