When the 12-episode event series “24: Live Another Day” launches with a two-hour episode on Monday, May 5, fans of the original “24” will be happy to see Mary Lynn Rajskub back as tech expert — and longtime right-hand-man to anti-terrorist agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) — Chloe O’Brian.
But her circumstances, and her look, will be a bit different. Zap2it gets the scoop from O’Brian, calling in from the set in London …
Zap2it: In the premiere, Bauer is once again trying to prevent a catastrophe — the assassination of the U.S. president in London — and as before, Chloe is at his side. What situation is she in when the show starts?
Mary Lynn Rajskub: Chloe has suffered some personal tragedy, and she’s become very anti-government and has joined a group which exposes government secrets. That’s what she’s into now.
Zap2it: You look very different in this — shorter, dark hair, edgy makeup and wardrobe. What’s that about?
Mary Lynn Rajskub: I’ve become very Goth. I have piercings and tattoos and got my real hair cut for this part.
Zap2it: You’re an early-40s wife and mother of a young son. How do you like this new look at this stage in life?
Mary Lynn Rajskub: It was a little jarring at first, but I’m getting used to it. I’m having to rock the Chloe look in my real life. It’s kind of fun. I’ve had the regular long hair for many, many years, so it’s kind of cool that as a full-grown woman, I get to be the punk-rock, Goth “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” that I never was.
It’s a general, dark, edgy look that you see all the time in different ways. It’s really reflective of where she’s at and how she is now angry and trying to hide and lashing out a little bit. It’s very different for me, and it’s very cool. I’m still trying to figure it out.
