Elaine Stritch is putting the mother in Mother’s Day on “30 Rock.”
On the Thursday, May 6 episode titled “The Moms,” Stritch reprises her role as Colleen Donaghy, mother to Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin). And let’s just say that she gets a little involved with his Avery-Nancy (Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore) love triangle.
“Well she thinks he’s got to catch up for God’s sakes. You know, grow up,” Stritch tells the press. “He’s involved in a lot of romantic bull**** and she tries to straighten him out.”
Jack doesn’t exactly welcome his mother’s meddling though.
“[He takes] another stab at trying to get her to stay out of his life,” explains Stritch. “I don’t think he wants her to try to straighten him out. But as it turns out, he’s very grateful because she’s very straightforward with him. They really have a wonderful relationship and love each other very, very deeply.”
Aww, we’re getting rather verklempt. Why can’t Colleen visit more often?
Stritch adds, “I don’t think it’s a good thing to have her overkill. She comes on every once in a while, raises hell, you know, changes the whole atmosphere and leaves for a while. And I think that makes her not the boring mother, you know what I mean? She just floats into New York with her furs and diamonds and tries to straighten him out a little bit.”
Jack isn’t the only one having mommy issues.
“They had everybody’s mother, not just [Jack’s],” says Stritch. “There’s a nice show about it and all the mothers got together. It was a cute idea for the script I thought. They’re the mothers that visit the characters on ’30 Rock.'”
Liz (Tina Fey) meets her mom’s (Anita Gillette) old flame, Tracy (Tracy Morgan) learns a lesson from his “mom” (Novella Nelson) and Jenna (Jane Krakowski) gets time with Verna (Jan Hooks) again.
“The Moms” airs on NBC on Thursday, May 6 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.
