Two decades ago, photographer Richard Corman took pictures of an up-and-coming singer/actress who lived in New York’s Alphabet City. A year later, Madonna’s first album was released and the rest is, as they say, history.
In Out magazine’s April issue devoted to “Ladies We Love,” Corman shares some never-before-published photos from that shoot and his memories of a pre-mega-stardom Madonna.
“She was so alive and unpretentious,” says Corman in Out. “She was fierce, determined. Nothing was going to stop her.”
Out’s “Ladies We Love” issue is dedicated to the women “who inspire,
scandalize, educate, and excite us”. In addition to Madonna and Britney
Spears, the issue celebrates Wendy Williams, Tippi Hedren, Heather Morris,
Phyllis Diller, Stockard Channing, and more.
