ABC Family renews 'Switched at Birth' and orders more 'Bunheads'; two comedies also coming back
ABC Family is solidifying its place as an original programming network.
The cable channel announced Friday that it has picked up “Switched at Birth” for a second season and ordered more new episodes of first-year drama “Bunheads” (though it won’t say how many).

ABC Family has also renewed “Melissa and Joey” for a third season and “Baby Daddy” for a second year.

“Two years ago we embarked on a bold strategy to grow the breadth and scope of original programming and create a Wednesday night summer comedy destination,” network president Michael Riley says. ” The new series have resonated with our viewers, and the combination of drama, comedy and reality brings great depth to our lineup. Our stable of strong series continues to grow, and I’m thrilled with the strength of our schedule.”
Executive vice president Kate Juergens adds, “I’m so pleased to add more ‘Baby Daddy’ and ‘Bunheads’ to our lineup, and to have already put a ‘Beverly Hills Nannies’ reunion special into production.”
The ABC Family dramas will return to television in the winter, while the comedies will air in spring 2013.
