young and hungry jonathan sadowski interview ABC Family's 'Young & Hungry': Jonathan Sadowski calls Gabi and Jonathan the 'modern day Ross and Rachel' ABC Family’s new comedy “Young & Hungry” is about to introduce a whole new love story: The saga of Gabi (Emily Osment) and Josh (Jonathan Sadowski).

The cute new series (premiere Wednesday, June 25) follows budding young chef Gabi after she gets hired to be tech entrepreneur genius Josh’s personal cook. But on her first night of work, prepping a romantic dinner for Josh to propose to his girlfriend, things don’t go as planned … especially when she wakes up the next morning, naked in Josh’s bed. Oops.

Sadowski knows that fans are going to be rooting for Gabi and Josh to get together despite his newly-engaged status. “Emily and I were talking about how our characters are like the modern-day version of Ross and Rachel on ‘Friends,'” Sadowski tells Zap2it on set. “You want them together so badly but things keep getting in the way. Right off the bat, Emily and I had such great chemistry and we really vibed, and I think it shows.”

But what about Josh’s new fiancé Caroline? It helps that she’s not the most likeable person in the world.

“I have a very complicated relationship with Caroline,” Sadowski says with a laugh. “She says yes and we are engaged, and that’s going to make things very complicated with my chef who I had relations with. It’s going to be pure comedy. Having Gabi work for me, there’s going to be those awkward moments but then we’ll look into each other’s eyes and there are very sincere moments.”

Sadowski loves how “Young & Hungry” captures that right balance of funny and heartwarming moments.

“It’s the greatest TV show in the history of television,” Sadowski says seriously before breaking out into a laugh. “Honestly, I think there’s something for everybody. Young kids are going to love it, hopeless romantics are going to love it, adults are going to love it. It’s 30 minutes of smiles and laughter each week. It connects with people across the board because there are all different types of comedy in it since each character/actor has a different style of delivery and comedic timing. So between the five of us, you’ll find at least one person funny.”

So what’s Sadowski’s style of comedy? “I tend to play the straight man,” Sadowski says. “I stay grounded and it’s a very subtle kind of comedy.”

Rounding out the cast is Rex Lee as Elliot, Josh’s personal assistant, and Kym Whitley as Yolanda, Josh’s housekeeper, but they’re so much more than that. “Elliot and Yolanda are so great, and as much as they are Josh’s employees, they’re all friends,” Sadowski says. “Elliot is Josh’s best friend and he’s been there from the beginning. Yolanda is the mama bear. When it comes down to it, Yolanda rules the roost. They get into some pretty fun situations this season.”

“Young & Hungry” premieres Wednesday (June 25) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
