aerosmith fenway getty Aerosmith to reunite for first studio album since 2004The Bad Boys from Boston will be back in the studio soon.

Jack Douglas, producer for four Aerosmith albums including “Toys in the Attic” and “Draw the Line,” tells the band will soon begin work on their first studio album since 2004’s “Honkin’ on Bobo.” And he’ll be there with them.

Douglas says, “The new album should be out around May 2012. I know that’s a long wait, but after the South American tour and Japan in October, November and December, we will just get back to work on it in mid-January.”

As far as what the album will offer, Douglas says the band will go old school.

“This album will be raw, nasty, tough rock with a good deal of the old Aerosmith ‘tongue in cheek,'” he adds.

Internal battles have plagued the band in recent days. In late 2009, Steven Tyler even quit the group. At the time, Joe Perry said the band was “looking for a new singer to work with.” There are also, of course, the legendary squabbles the group faced in their drug-fueled days.

Tyler has had a busy schedule of late as a judge on the FOX hit show “American Idol.” But the fences have been mended and the group will be back together soon.

This will be the band’s fifteenth studio album. Their first album came out in 1973.
