Air New Zealand is continuing its trend of creating fantastic commercials tied into the release of “The Hobbit” movies with its latest ad, “Just another day in Middle-earth.” Premiering exclusively on Zap2it, the commercial reminds potential New Zealand visitors just how similar the country is to the fantastical world filmed there.

Flight attendants find themselves having trouble fitting their hobbit-sized feet into shoes while others are sporting their elf ears and pilots find themselves transforming into dwarves in the above video. Then there’s Fili himself, Dean O’Gorman, who finds himself happily eating some traditional Middle-earth food on the flight.

“You know, a lot of people believe that what we see at the cinema is just a load of fanciful imaginings, but I’ll have you know, Middle-Earth is closer than you think,” Sylvester McCoy, better known as Radagast or the 7th Doctor on “Doctor Who,” says as the commercial’s narrator.

For the release of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” Air New Zealand released an in-flight safety video called “An Unexpected Briefing” that featured appearances by director Peter Jackson and Gollum. While that video was great, this one clearly has the upper hand because of the quick appearance of Smaug.

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” will be released on Dec. 13, 2013. Click here for more information on how to win a trip to the movie’s premiere courtesy of Air New Zealand. What do you think of this new ad?
