alec baldwin up late msnbc show gi Alec Baldwin officially heading to MSNBC to host current events showAlmost a month after talk began circulating that Alec Baldwin might be making his way behind a desk as the host of a new MSNBC talk show, the cable news network has announced that the former “30 Rock” actor will indeed host a current events and culture talk show set to launch this October.

On Thursday (Sept. 5), the network announced that Baldwin will take over the 10 p.m. timeslot on Friday nights as the host of “Up Late w/ Alec Baldwin.” “I’ve been talking with Alec for a while and can’t wait to bring his personality and eclectic interests to MSNBC,” Phil Griffin, president of MSNBC said in a statement. “He’s got such a passion for ideas and what’s going on in the world –  he’s going to be a great addition to our line-up.”

“After two seasons of my WNYC podcast, I’ve developed a fondness for hosting a show that involved talking with smart, talented and engaging people in every imaginable field,” Baldwin says. “I’m grateful to MSNBC for helping me bring a similar show to television.”

“Up Late w/ Alec Baldwin” will replace the “Lockup” prison documentary series, which currently airs Fridays at 10 p.m. As of press time, there is no official premiere date.
