alison sweeney gi Alison Sweeney talks marriage longevity, soap shelf life and doggie healthOn Monday (Jan. 23), Zap2it talked to Alison Sweeney about her partnership with Science Diet on the Million Pound Pledge — a call to action for pet owners to help their dogs and cats lose weight and exercise.

“The Biggest Loser” host and “Days of Our Lives” regular is a pet owner helped her own dog, Winky, get back into trim condition after years of weight gain. According to Sweeney, one of every two pets in the United States is overweight.

“I think people know they need to be healthy, but pets don’t get to go to the doctor,” Sweeney tells Zap2it. “So they’re counting on us to keep them healthy and we can have more control on how that goes.”

The pledge basically provides a forum for pet owners to connect, trade advice and get tips from Alison and track your pet’s weight.

We also talked to Sweeney about the recent end of ABC’s “One Life to Live” and what seems like a coming end of an era for daytime soaps.

“You would be crazy not to be worried,” says Sweeney of NBC’s “Days.” “I’ve decided to take it as a challenge and at the show we’re working really hard to stay on track and make sure we’re producing the best possible show we can and that we focus on the positive — we still have a show and can still make it good.”

Sweeney also talked about her secret to a happy marriage — she and husband David Sanov have been married for almost 12 years and have two children.

“Of course there are going to be problems,” she says. “The good times well outweigh the bad and our beautiful children and life together is so important that we find a way to make it work and we’re stronger for it.”
