“American Guns,” a program featuring a family that manufactures firearms, has been canceled by Discovery prior to its third season. Fox News reports that the show — currently out of production — will not return after a successful season 2.
Ratings in season 2 had shown a significant increase, but pressure to cancel the program came quickly in the wake of the Newtown shootings. Messages left on the show’s Facebook page since Friday expressed a desire for the gun-themed programming to go. A representative for the show would not comment on whether or not such pressure was a factor in the cancellation.
Another show, TLC’s special “Best Funeral Ever,” has merely been delayed following the shootings. Originally scheduled to air on Thursday, Dec. 27, the show about unique and themed funeral celebrations will now air on Sunday, Jan. 6, following the “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” Halloween special.
Immediately following the shooting, networks altered their programming schedules to show respect for the tragedy. Syfy postponed an episode of “Haven” that featured a high-school shooting, while Fox pulled episodes of “Family Guy” and “American Dad.” There is no word on when these episodes will air.
