The man running against “American Idol” alum Clay Aiken in the North Carolina Democratic party congressional primary died Monday (May 12). According to the Asheboro Courier-Tribune, 71-year-old Keith Crisco died in his home after a fall.
Following the news, Aiken announced he was suspending all campaign activity out of respect to Crisco and his family. “I am stunned and deeply saddened by Keith Crisco’s death. He was a gentleman, a good and honorable man and an extraordinary public servant,” he writes on Twitter.
After voting in the primary took place on May 6, the results were deemed too close to call. Though Aiken was ahead by a small number of votes, both were awaiting official word on how to proceed.
