The reveal came about after Michael Strahan noted that “Idol” had only recently been renewed for its 14th season. He then asked if Connick would be a part of that return. “I’ll be back,” was Connick’s brief but telling response.
Technically, this does not mean Connick is a certain return or that he will necessarily return as a judge. Prior to the current Season 13, Connick had appeared on “American Idol” both as a performer and as a mentor. This was his first season at the judges’ table. The statement does, however, indicate that Connick at least wants to return next season — indicating that “Idol” might find its Season 14 judges more quickly this year. Co-judge Keith Urban was the only returning star, with Connick and Jennifer Lopez added later.
“American Idol” Season 13 airs Wednesdays and Thursdays on FOX.
