Lovely young Thia Megia threw down the ballad gauntlet Wednesday night (March 2) on “American Idol.” Up until her performance, no one had really blown us away, though Karen Rodriguez did very well.

But little Thia took to the stage and put on a masterclass in singing a ballad. She was controlled, her tone was clear, her pitch was perfect. It was captivating and lovely, we can’t wait to see what she does every week. Thia and Pia Toscano were easily the best of the night.

Her song is by the great Irene Cara, who also had hits “Flashdance (What a Feeling)” and the title song from the movie “Fame,” (the original, not that terrible remake). Thia’s choice of “Out Here On My Own” was also featured in “Fame.”

What did you think, “Idol” fans? Did you love Thia too? We always knew she’d get here.
