erika van pelt top 10 'American Idol's' Erika Van Pelt knew she was going home: 'I never had my moment'Erika Van Pelt had a feeling Top 10 week would be the end of her “American Idol” journey, even after her drastic “America’s Next Top Model”-style hair makeover.

“I knew I was going to be in the bottom. I would’ve had to have a super, super standout, crazy, over the top performance to [advance another week],” she tells Zap2it after her elimination. “I never had my moment!”

Realistically, Van Pelt (affectionately known as EVP) felt her time had come. “I knew in my gut that if it were Heejun and I in the bottom two that it would be me to go home, just because of what has happened in the show thus far. It’s not me being cynical — I was just sort of being realistic about it. I’ve been in the bottom for four weeks in a row. America never voted me into the top anything. I got saved once by Randy in the Wild Card and then every week after that I got sent to the bottom. I was getting horribly uncomfortable being in that chair every week. Those stools are so uncomfortable!”

Besides — it’s not like she ever gave a horrible performance or anything. “It would be okay for me to be sitting in those stools if I were out of tune, had I screwed up the lyrics, had I fallen or something or made an embarrassing fool out of myself — that has been the hardest thing for me, because I do feel very proud of every performance I’ve had on that stage.”

That’s not to say she’s not upset about leaving. “I’m not going to lie
— it really stinks being the first of the top 10 to go home. I’m not
going to make any excuses for that — it really is crappy,” she admits.

Still, she’s excited at what’s ahead. “On the other side of the coin, I’m stoked for tour. It’s just going to be amazing. I’m so excited to be on tour, especially with this group of people. We have a ton of fun together. Even through long rehearsal days and just, you know, hell, we somehow have a good time every time we go out there. It’s horrible — the stage managers want to kill us because we’re always having too much fun.”

In the immediate future, she’s just getting some sleep. “The plan is to get a lot of sleep, and then get pumped to go on tour.”
