amy poehler gi Amy Poehler takes Harvard: 'Parks and Recreation' star to address Class of 2011Amy Poehler is about to give Elle Woods a run for her money.

The “Parks and Recreation” star is headed to Harvard, but she won’t get getting her “Legally Blonde” on. Poehler has been slated to speak at the University’s Senior Class Day, where she will address the graduates of 2011. The speech will take place one day before the actual Commencement ceremony, on May 25th.

The Emmy Award winner hails from Massachusetts and graduated from Boston College before achieving fame with “Saturday Night Live.” She has since moved to film and primetime television.

“We wanted someone people would recognize, who could give a funny and engaging speech,” Senior Class Marshal Toby Stein told the Harvard Gazette. “During her time on ‘SNL,’ Amy was a part of our growing up, and there’s no doubt that she’s pretty hilarious.”

Stein also cites “Mean Girls,” in which Poehler appeared alongside Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams, as “an icon of our generation.”

Past speakers have included journalists Christiane Amanpour and Matt Lauer.

“Amy did ‘Weekend Update’ on ‘SNL,’ so she’s a different kind of newscaster,” Stein says. “We’re hoping that experience will put a different spin on current events, and give seniors a look at the world we’re living in from a different angle.”

Poehler isn’t the only celeb tasked to address the Class of 2011 this spring.

Chelsea Handler is signed on to speak at Emory University, Tom Hanks at Yale, Denzel Washington at Penn and Steven Colbert at Northwestern. Not to mention Barack and Michelle Obama at Northwestern and Miami Dade college, respectively, as well as Former President Bill Clinton at NYU.
