Less than a day after the surprise announcement that Shia LaBeouf will not appear in the Broadway play “Orphans” alongside Alec Baldwin, a replacement has been announced. It is being reported that “Six Feet Under” actor Ben Foster has taken the role of Treat instead of LaBeouf.
The New York Times says that the producers of “Oprhans” confirmed the news. Foster had originally auditioned for the past, but he, like LaBeouf, has never been in a play before. He also has never worked with Alec Baldwin, which it turns out is harder than it sounds. Disagreements between LaBeouf and Baldwin were reportedly a main reason director Daniel Sullivan and lead producers Frederick Zollo and Robert Cole chose to replace the “Transformers” star.
As “Orphans” is scheduled to begin previews at Gerald Schoenfeld Theater on March 19 and will open on Broadway on April 7, Foster is jumping into the thick of things quickly. He is scheduled to start attending rehearsals on Feb. 22. The rest of the cast has been rehearsing since Feb. 11.
At least the casting move seems to have LaBeouf’s stamp of approval. After it was announced, he tweeted, “BEN FOSTER IS A BEAST. HE WILL KILL IT.”
