The cable channel announced Thursday (June 19) that it has picked up a second season of the show, which only started production a couple of weeks ago. Season 2 will run 13 episodes, up from 10 for Season 1. It also released the first photo from the show, which you can see above, with Odenkirk in costume as Saul Goodman talking to creators Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan.

“We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series and today we happily confirm that our initial ‘Saul’ order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes,” AMC president Charlie Collier says in a statement. “When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of ‘Breaking Bad,’ there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves. We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on ‘Saul’ and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures.”

Gilligan, who created “Breaking Bad,” is directing the first episode of “Better Call Saul” and will serve as co-showrunner with Gould, who created the Saul Goodman character.

Additionally, AMC has moved the premiere date of “Better Call Saul” from fall 2014 to early 2015, with Season 2 set to start in early 2016. In both cases, the show will join “The Walking Dead” and “Talking Dead” on the channel’s schedule in the first quarter.
