blake shelton tornado concert miranda lambert Blake Shelton planning Oklahoma tornado victims benefit concertOklahoma native Blake Shelton knows there is going to be much work involved in the recovery effort for the deadly tornado that swept through his home state earlier this week. He tells Billboard that he is partnering with NBC to organize a benefit concert for the victims of the disaster.

“We’ll know more about it in the next 24 hours. I’m hoping it will raise a lot of money. Obviously it will be televised and will happen really quickly,” says Shelton, a native of Ada, Okla., which is about an hour south of where the tornado hit.

At Tuesday night’s “The Voice” live show, Shelton and wife Miranda Lambert performed a tribute to the victims with Lambert’s ballad “Over You.”

Shelton isn’t the first celebrity to recognize the need for money in the relief efforts. Star athletes Kevin Durant and Matt Kemp have pledged to donate to the cause. You can also donate to the American Red Cross to help out.

Hopefully Shelton’s concert will be a success. The Hurricane Sandy relief concert reportedly raised over $50 million.
