On Thursday (Sept. 26), HBO announced that they’d renewed “Boardwalk Empire” for a fifth season. “Thanks to Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Howard Korder and their stellar team, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ remains in a class by itself,” Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming, said in a statement. “I look forward to another electrifying season of this impeccably crafted series.”

Season 4 of the series, created by Terence Winter and exec produced by Scorsese, debuted on Sept. 8 and has continued to be one of HBO’s most-watched original series, with an average gross audience of 7.5 million viewers.

Set in the 1920 during Prohibition and chronicling the life of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson (Steve Buscemi), the undisputed leader of Atlantic City, “Boardwalk Empire” recently received five Emmys Awards, the most of any series at the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Bobby Cannavale.

“Boardwalk Empire” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
