USA’s new summer series, “Necessary Roughness,” is currently shooting in Atlanta, Ga. and we hear that it has picked up some heat with a new guest star.
An USA Network rep confirms that “Body of Proof” star, Nicholas Bishop, is guest starring for one episode in the show’s inaugural season.
He plays Griffin Page, a dashing former war correspondent who goes on to host his own cable news show. Page seeks treatment from psychotherapist Dani (played by Callie Thorne) after inexplicably cracking up during a somber report and getting suspended from his job.
“[He’s modeled] a bit like an Anderson Cooper or Wolf Blitzer,” Bishop tells us of the role. “And he basically has a meltdown at the news desk. It’s actually pretty funny and the lead [Thorne] kind of starts working with me to get over my issues and to get me back on the news desk.”
“It’s a great role and they all seem like a good bunch of people,” he adds.
Bishop plays Peter Dunlop on the ABC crime/medical drama starring Dana Delany. The Australian actor has also starred on the short-lived series, “Past Life,” on FOX and the Australian soap opera, “Home and Away.”
“Necessary Roughness” premieres June 29 on USA. It stars Thorne, a therapist whose life unravels when she finds her husband cheating. She takes on the challenge of rehabilitating a football player (“True Blood’s” Mehcad Brooks) whose misbehavior off-the-field threatens his career.
