Production on the second installment in the “Captain America” franchise has officially begun. A press release from Disney announces the start of filming, and reveals new details about the plot and cast of the movie.
According to the release, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” takes place after “The Avengers,” and will feature Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) as he adjusts to living in the modern world. He will also be teaming up with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to fight a new villain in Washington, D.C.
Sebastian Stan, whose character seemed to die in “Captain America: The First Avenger,” reprises his role as Bucky Barnes, who becomes Winter Soldier. He will be joined by other Marvel actors, including Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Hayley Atwell and Toby Jones.
Joining the cast for “The Winter Soldier” are Robert Redford as senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Alexander Pierce, Emily VanCamp as Agent 13 and Georges St-Pierre as Georges Batroc. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for theaters on April 4, 2014.
