Hollywood has been trying to get a new take on the classic 1950 Broadway musical off the ground for years, and Deadline is reporting 20th Century Fox has finally secured the movie rights from songwriter Frank Loesser’s widow Jo Loesser. The only previous film version was a 1955 hit starring Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and original Broadway cast member Vivian Blaine.

Tatum and Gordon-Levitt are no strangers to working together, having co-starred in 2009’s “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” 2008’s “Stop-Loss” and 2005’s “Havoc.” Tatum also has a cameo in Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut “Don Jon.”

In addition to the Oscars, both actors have demonstrated their appreciation for musical comedy as guest hosts of “Saturday Night Live” and represent the dream casting any studio would hope for on a project like this.

While the remake is still in very early stages and no director has been set, Deadline reports that both Tatum and Gordon-Levitt are “interested” in coming aboard.
