chasing-life-italia-ricci-richard brancatisan-scott-michael-foster.jpg“Chasing Life” keeps throwing curveballs into the path of April Carver in the form of cancer, a possible second, secret family her dad had and now Leo Hendrie is a member of the cancer support group she decides to attend. Actress Italia Ricci tells Zap2it that this particular curveball is setting up a love triangle.

“You can do the math. There will definitely be Team Dominic and Team Leo shirts, I’m sure,” says Ricci. “I still don’t know what team I’m on. On paper, I’m totally Team Leo,
but then I watch the episodes and I’m like, ‘Oh, Dominic, you’re
killing me!’ I don’t know, I’m so indecisive. I’m sure everybody who
asks is going to hate that answer, but I cannot pick one, I want them

But just how do we get to the love triangle place? This week saw April and Dominic grow closer, though she still doesn’t know how to tell him about her illness.

“April has been crushing on Dominic for a while at work and it’s finally coming true, and she doesn’t want to jeopardize something so new over something she barely believes herself,” says Ricci. “He’s a normal guy, no drama, he just wants a real girl who doesn’t need him, so she struggles with how to be what he wants while dealing with what she is.”

Whereas Leo is now one of the few people in her life with whom April can be completely honest.

“He’s sick too, but doesn’t tell anybody, so he and April develop this sort of relationship where she can have a cancer friend,” says Ricci. “She can confide in him all the things that she can’t tell anyone else, which helps her figure out how to tell people and also maybe not tell people for a little while longer. You sort of explore how she gets a whole other relationship out of people who know her on that level and how long she decides to separate those two worlds.”

“Chasing Life” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
