Chelsea Handler may end up doing something with CBS after “Chelsea Lately” ends, but hosting “The Late Late Show” isn’t in the cards.
After Handler posted a photo on Instagram with her holding papers featuring the CBS logo, talk that she might take over the late night show currently hosted by Craig Ferguson began to stir. In a statement though, the network puts that thought to rest..
CBS tells THR, “There are no discussions with Chelsea Handler regarding the network’s 12:30 late night broadcast. Her meeting with CBS yesterday was a general meeting with our syndication group.”
Handler’s manager, Irving Azoff, tells The Wrap that the CBS logo’s presence in the photo was unintentional: “It was not a conscious attempt to say the meeting was with CBS,” Azoff says, adding that while he thought Handler should “hear all options,” her comedy is probably not the best fit with a broadcast network.
That news comes on the heels of CBS Corporation CEO Les Moonves saying “12:30 is up in the air” and that a woman in late night “would be great.” Ferguson’s contract with the network expires in June.
