Matthew Cowles, a veteran actor of TV and film, passed away earlier this week, his manager Tsu Tsu Stanton says on Twitter. Stanton writes, “Matthew Cowles passed away on 5/22. I had the pleasure of being his manager. He
was a very gifted and kind man who loved life and everyone.”
Cowles, who would have been 70 in September, is best known for playing the role of Billy Clyde Tuggle on “All My Children” in the 1980s, though he also appeared more recently in the 2013 online iteration of the long-running soap before it was canceled for good.
Husband of “Good Wife” actress Christine Baranski for over 30 years, Cowles also appeared in the U.S. adaptation of “Life on Mars,” “Oz” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” His movie credits include “Slap Shot,” “The Money Pit,” “The Cowboy Way” and “Shutter Island.”
Cowles is survived by Baranski and their two daughters, Lily and Isabel.
