conan obrien tax bill parents home gi Conan O'Brien almost lost his family home over outstanding tax billConan O’Brien almost lost a home close to his heart over an outstanding tax bill.

The late-night host owed $8,000 in back taxes on his family’s Westerly, R.I., house. Fortunately, he was notified about the bill just in time and was able to pay it off before the home went to auction.

The Westerly Sun reports O’Brien paid the bill on June 20. He later told Us Weekly that he was unaware that the bill was outstanding until the Westerly Sun reporter contacted him.

“As soon as I was made aware that the tax bill on my parents’ house was being mailed to the wrong address, I paid the bill immediately,” the “Conan” host says. “The problem has been corrected. I am grateful to the reporter at the Westerly Sun who spotted this error and notified me.”

O’Brien attributes the mix-up to a clerical error. The house was set to be auctioned on June 24. It is currently under O’Brien’s parents’ names.
