oldest person alivejpg Congratulations 114 year old Maria Gomes Valentim, newly crowned 'oldest living person'

Way to drop the ball, Besse Cooper.

The 114-year-old American just lost the title of ‘oldest living person’ to a Brazilian woman who was born 48 days before her.

Guinness World Records (via Daily Intel) confirms that, at 114 years and 313 days old, Maria Gomes Valentim is officially the oldest living person.

Born on July 9, 1896, in Carangola, Brazil (her lifelong home), Valentim has one son, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

The super-centenarian has many challengers to her title, but, at the moment, she’s the oldest person with proof.

People don’t have a history of having the honor for long, though — and not even for the reason you’d expect. It was only two months ago that Cooper got her plaque.
