“Constantine” is facing a major change before it even premieres on NBC. Lucy Griffiths, the comic-book adaptation’s female lead, will depart the series at some point early in its run.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Griffiths’ exit comes after the “Constantine” producers decided to take the “Hellblazer” adaptation in a different direction.

Griffiths’ character of Liv — who plays a central role in the pilot episode — is a powerful psychic who allies with John Constantine (Matt Ryan) when a demon comes after her. Liv will now be written out of the show, later to be replaced by Zed, a female character from the comics who works closely with Constantine on matters of the occult.

The “Constantine” series premiere will air Friday, Oct. 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
