cory monteith found dead vancouver gi Cory Monteith dead at 31: 'Glee' star's body found in Vancouver hotel

“Glee” star Cory Monteith has been found dead in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was 31.

Vancouver police held a short press conference in which they confirmed that Monteith had been found dead in his hotel Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel room shortly after noon on Saturday (July 13). He had been staying at the hotel since July 6 and was due to check out on the day he was found. There was no evidence of suspicious circumstances.

Monteith’s representative tells Zap2It: “We are so saddened to
confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We
are in shock and mourning this tragic loss.”
The “Glee” executive producers, 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Company issued a joint statement on Saturday night:

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
Vancouver’s acting Police Chief Doug LePard says, “There were others with Mr. Monteith in his room earlier (Friday) night, but video and fob key entries show him returning to his room by himself in the early morning hours and we believe he was alone when he died.”
The Canadian network CTV posted on Twitter on Saturday evening (July 13) that police were planning to announce Monteith’s death that night: “Sources tell CTV Glee star Cory #Monteith found dead today in Vancouver. Police expected to confirm at 10:30.”

While CTV gave no details beyond the initial, short report, news that someone major had died was corroborated by another network, Global BC: “BREAKING: Vancouver Police have said ‘a Hollywood actor found dead today’. A news conference is scheduled for 10:30.” A short time later, Global posted a short article which also confirmed Monteith as the dead actor. The network’s sources revealed that Monteith had been found earlier in the day at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel. No cause of death was revealed in the article.

Monteith has had a troubled history with drug abuse and only recently finished treatment in a rehab facility in April. This latest rehabilitation meant that the actor was not available to play the role of Finn on “Glee” for several episodes at the end of Season 4. Production did continue as normal, and Finn’s absence was explained simply by his attendance of college.

On his Twitter feed Friday night, Monteith seemed cheerful, posting jokey tweets about SyFy’s “Sharknado.”
