cory monteith emmys tribute gi Cory Monteith to be honored with special Emmys tribute

The pressure is on for the Emmys to honor deceased “Glee” actor Cory Monteith. Emmy Awards executive producer Ken Ehlrich admits that “something that reflects an homage” will take place during the Sept. 22 ceremony, but “what the extent of that is, or how we’re going to approach it … well, it’s too early to tell.”

Ehlrich sat down with Deadline at TCA to say that he has been getting pressure to create what the site is describing as a “larger tribute” to Monteith. Because the 31-year-old’s death was so recent, it’s causing a bit of a scheduling conflict for the Emmys. At least Ehlrich could confirm that the Monteith tribute will be separate from the usual “In Memoriam” special.

“If Cory had passed away in March, we’d have had four months to look at this with a little more perspective,” he says. “The reason we’re getting all of this discussion now is because he passed away two weeks ago. But we are going to deal with it.”

It’s fitting that Neil Patrick Harris, who made guest appearances on “Glee,” will be hosting the awards show, so at least that will add some gravitas to the memoriam. “Glee” is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Jane Lynch) and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series (Dot-Marie Jones).
