Having faked her own death, Annie is now on the run and looking for a way to destroy Henry Wilcox. How far did she get in the first fall episode of Season 4?

Does the new “Covert Affairs” work?

Life after death

There are a lot of negatives in Annie’s new life. For one thing, she’s completely on her own. The CIA can’t help her. She has no friends. Were anyone in law enforcement to realize she is alive, it would be very bad. In order to avoid detection and infiltrate the correct organizations, Annie is stuck living in terrible neighborhoods with scary people.

On the plus side, that is one great motorcycle. Her hair is nice too.

On the job

Annie’s first avenue of attack seems to be Henry’s ex-wife — and Jai’s mother — Sana. The two women meet in a grief support group and soon strike up a friendship. In an impressively short amount of time Annie converts friendship into a high-end job with the older woman’s fiance.

Of course, Sana knows all along that this is some sort of spy game. She is not, however, much of a fan of Henry either, and she’s willing to help.

It’s just kind of too bad that Annie gets found out by an assassin-type with Wilcox connections. Will Annie have to become like her enemy in order to survive?

Piper Perabo talks about life after Annie’s (fake) death.

Back home

Even death isn’t quite enough to solve all of the problems caused by Henry. Joan has been relegated to the records room (at least her co-workers are friendly!). Auggie is under investigation and totally doesn’t have the access he once did. Arthur is flirting with serious jail time.

Only Calder still has job security and access to the big leagues. This is a good thing too, since the new head of the DPD has brought in the one and only Henry Wilcox to consult on cases. Since everyone knows about the animosity between Calder and Annie’s crew, obviously Calder is the right guy to work with the enemy.

But the audience knows this isn’t quite the case. Even though they have to pretend to still hate each other in public, Auggie and Calder are secretly working from the inside to get Annie’s life back.

They just have to not kill each other in the process.
