On the next new episode of “Criminal Minds,” the Behavioral Analysis Unit team heads down to Texas to investigate the murders of several prostitutes whose slayings appear to have religious overtones.

In the above preview video, David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and Dr. Blake (Jeanne Tripplehorn) meet some of the local Texas color in the form of a medical examiner who seems … less than competent. The reason being? He was elected to the position. He’s not actually a doctor of any kind. Rossi deadpans, “Democracy in action.”

The two-part Season 9 finale, titled “Angels” this week and “Demons” next week, will see one BAU member’s life hanging in the balance as they unravel these prostitute deaths in Texas, while another BAU member will confront a sad secret from the past, airing Wednesday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 14 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
