John Malkovich is not doing anything halfway in his first TV series role in NBC’s “Crossbones.”

The Oscar-nominated actor tears into the role of legendary pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, the ruler of an outlaw settlement in the Bahamas in the early 18th century. You can get a taste of Malkovich’s bigger-than-life performance in this trailer for “Crossbones.”

The series also stars Richard Coyle (“Coupling,” “Covert Affairs”) as Tom Lowe, a British spy who poses as a surgeon to infiltrate Teach’s world and attempt to foil whatever plans Teach has to move against the British empire.

Neil Cross (“Luther”) created “Crossbones,” which looks to be aiming for a “Deadwood”-on-the-high-seas sort of vibe. The series is scheduled to premiere May 30 on NBC.
