cult canceled 'Cult' canceled: The CW drops meta thriller series from scheduleUnfortunate news, “Cult” fans — The CW has dropped the series from its Friday night line-up.

Starring Matt Davis, Alona Tal, Robert Knepper, and Jessica Lucas, the meta drama — about strange doings behind-the-scenes of a cult TV show on The CW called “Cult” — has struggled in the ratings since its debut. It was moved from Tuesday night to Friday night, which has proven successful for The CW’s genre fare in the past, but even on its new night the ratings didn’t stabilize.

The CW has no immediate plans to air the remaining episodes of “Cult.” The cast and crew did film a 13-episode season, but only seven episodes aired. For now, the upcoming episodes have been removed from The CW’s schedule.

For the next three weeks, the expected episodes (titled “”The Devil You Know,” “Off To See The Wizard,” and “The Prophecy of St. Clare”) will be replaced by repeats of “The Carrie Diaries” and “Oh, Sit.”

“Sadly true,” tweets series creator Rockne S. O’Bannon. “CW Execs once called the last 5 episodes ‘outstanding.’ I
guess too outstanding. You are great, SMART fans. Thx to u all!”

Davis, on the other hand, tweets, “Good news Cult fans!
Cult has been renewed for the next ten season due to its brilliant marketing campaign!
Good job everyone.” (This attitude is understandable — the marketing push behind “Cult” was negligible at best.) He added, “All joking aside, thank you to all who watched. It was a wonderful learning experience, and exciting misadventure.
On to bigger the better!”

In the “good news” department, Davis is expected to make another appearance on “The Vampire Diaries” this season — he’s been spotted on set in Atlanta, and the show is currently making a habit of bringing folks back from the dead.
