zap photo kristin chenoweth 420 'Dancing With the Stars': Kristin Chenoweth plays 'risk taker' for two nightsKristin Chenoweth is spending plenty of time in a certain ballroom.

The singing-acting dynamo, an owner of Tony and Emmy Awards, will perform on both airings of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” this week. She’ll do Broadway numbers tonight (Monday, Oct. 24), then showcase her current turn toward country music during the results episode Tuesday (Oct. 25).

“The show is very old-school, so I’m glad they’re doing Broadway Night,” Chenoweth tells Zap2it as she heads into rehearsal for it. “I’m doing ‘Maybe This Time’ from ‘Cabaret’ and ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’ from ‘My Fair Lady.’ I’ve been singing these songs for a long time, and whenever I revisit them, I realize just how amazing the lyrics and the melodies are.

“That’s [‘Cabaret’ composers] Kander and Ebb, and Rodgers and Hammerstein [of ‘My Fair Lady’ fame]. I wouldn’t say they don’t write them like that anymore, but I do feel I was born at the wrong time. I’m really glad I get to do the classics, because that’s where I feel most comfortable.”

On Tuesday’s edition of “Dancing,” recurring “Glee” guest star Chenoweth will sing “Lessons Learned” from her new country release, “Some Lessons Learned.” She reveals, “I’ve never performed it live, but I’m a risk-taker. I’ve waited for exactly the right moment for that, and it’s presented itself through this show.”

Also on Tuesday’s “Dancing” bill is country mainstay Martina McBride, whom Chenoweth deems “so amazing. I have nothing but the deepest respect for country music, and I wanted to be a part of it. I’m a new artist in that venue, but for me, it’s always about the lyric and the melody. It can be country, it can be pop, it can be Broadway … it’s all about what speaks to me. I don’t even put an album’s genre in a box anymore. It’s about which songs were chosen and why.”

With a packed schedule these days — also including her upcoming ABC series “GCB” and a co-hosting stint with Trace Adkins on FOX’s American Country Awards on Monday, Dec. 5 — Chenoweth wouldn’t have time now to be a “Dancing With the Stars” contender herself. But in the future?

“I don’t know,” she says. “I don’t think it’s really fair for a dancer to go on it [as a contestant], to be honest with you. I just love doing my concert work and Broadway, so in a way, ‘Dancing With the Stars’ is my life, not that I do that all the time. I just love to watch the show and be entertained by it.”
