dancing with the stars season 18 week 7 scores abc 'Dancing with the Stars' Season 18, week 7: Scores and dances from Latin Week's vida loca

“Dancing with the Stars” Season 18 is ready to live la vida loca in week 7. That’s because Ricky Martin is on hand to perform and judge Latin Week. With additional crazy coming from the season’s first group dances, anyone could come out on top and anyone could be eliminated.

Get the scores, dance recaps and elimination results here.

Once Ricky Martin had done his singing and dancing extravaganza thing, the contestants come out to learn the first results of the night:

Danica and Val, Amy and Derek are safe. James and Peta, however, are in jeopardy.

Amy Purdy and Derek Hough
Dancing the rumba

Considering it’s Derek who did the choreography, this is a surprisingly understated and simple dance. That’s a good thing. There’s really nothing showy — it’s just two people dancing (well) together.

Len: “You lit my fire out there! I liked that mix, it was short, staccato moves and then fluid.”

Scores: 9+9+9+9 = 36

James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd
Dancing the samba

Sexy gas-pumping. Yes, that’s the theme of this one. It’s a bit of a gas-station striptease too. The performance is kind of awesome (if a little like watching sex set to music), and the basic dancing looks pretty good too.

Bruno: “What are you doing tomorrow? No really, because I think I need to book full-service … That was filthy, that was dirty and I loved it!”

Scores: 9+9+8+9 = 35

Danica McKellar and Val Chmerkovskiy
Dancing the salsa

Despite the broken rib, Danica is keeping the shimmy going. You’ve got to wonder how much medical bandaging that’s going on under the tank top though. Occasional stiffness and the avoidance of tricks (for the most part) are the only real giveaways.

Carrie Ann: “Because of your injury … the injury stifled your movement … I think it was a little under.”

Scores: 8+9+8+8 = 33

Some more results:

Candace and Mark, Meryl and Maks are safe.
Charlie and Sharna, NeNe and Tony are in jeopardy.

There is also the unfortunate news that Amy has injured her back during the performance. They’re dropping like flies this week, aren’t they?

NeNe Leakes and Tony Dovolani
Dancing the Argentine tango

Poor Tony has to dance this one without a shirt, mostly because Twitter is a cruel and unusual place. The beginning has an odd seduction bit, but then it gets into the tango. That part is pretty good, but I’d be shocked if the judges don’t say something about sharper movements.

Ricky: “You were floating on stage, you were just like glancing!”

Scores: 8+8+7+8 = 31

Charlie White and Sharna Burgess
Dancing the paso doble

If you want proof that the judges consider performance over difficulty, this would be it. Charlie and Sharna have a much more complicated dance than most of the rest. But they’re still going to be judged like it was easy. Kind of weird, when you think about it.

Len: “To get a 10, you have to do something special. And for me, this was nothing special.”

Scores: 9+10+8+9 = 36

Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas
Dancing the Argentine tango

Candace is really in character for this one — who knows whether or not the sports therapist had anything to do with this? The results, however, look cleaner than they have. This may be one of Candace’s better dances.

Bruno: “Now we’re in business! Cold flesh, warm blood, basic instinct — that’s Argentine tango!”

Scores: 8+9+9+9 = 35

Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Dancing the salsa

The dance party from last week may still be going on for these two — it’s just a little more Latin now. This is very much a club-style dance. Lots of people on the dance floor and fast, sexy movement. Meryl even gets a lengthy solo with the ladies.

Carrie Ann: “You blow me away! … You were so in your element!”

Scores: 10+10+9+10 = 39

Group dance 1: Team Vida

Charlie and Sharna, James and Peta, NeNe and Tony

Scores: 8+10+8+9 = 35

Group dance 2: Team Loca

(judged from the dress rehearsal to include Amy)

Meryl and Maks, Danica and Val, Amy and Derek, Candace and Mark

Scores: 10+10+9+10 = 39

The eliminated couple is … NeNe Leakes and Tony Dovolani.

So that’s it for Latin Week. Brutal, punishing and ending with an elimination, this may be nothing but good practice for week 8 — celebrities dancing with each other and Abby Lee Miller (from “Dance Moms”) as a judge.
