django unchained toys 'Django Unchained' action figures discontinued for depicting slaves

While it’s one thing for a movie to discuss a controversial topic like slavery, it’s a whole other thing entirely to have toys of those topics hit store shelves. A toy manufacturer had released a series of “Django Unchained” action figures that depicted the film’s main characters, but since several of them are slaves, African American groups decided to boycott the toy line.

The Weinstein Company eventually requested that the company stop producing and distributing the figures, TMZ reports. Only around 1,000 of the dolls have been released at this point. The toy manufacturer reportedly says that it never meant to offend anyone with the dolls.

This isn’t the first controversy “Django Unchained” has faced. The Oscar-nominated film has been criticized for its use of the n-word, its depiction of slavery and its use of violence. Director Quentin Tarantino is seemingly so sick of hearing about the touchy subjects in the film that he snapped at a reporter and said, “I’m not your slave, and you’re not my master.”
