donald trump miss usa 5 million Donald Trump awarded $5 million after contestant claimed Miss USA pageant is rigged

Donald Trump has come out on top in the trial that followed the Miss USA pageant “rigged” claims from over the summer. After ex-Miss Pennsylvania, Sheena Monnin, claimed that the pageant winners were predetermined, a judge has awarded Trump’s Miss Universe Organization $5 million in damages.

“The method in which the Miss USA Pageant is judged … precludes any reasonable possibility that the judging was rigged,” U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Theodore H. Katz concluded, according to the New York Post. His ruling claimed that Monnin’s statements were “defamatory,” “false” and “showed a reckless disregard.”

Monnin quit the Miss USA pageant in June after she failed to make the semifinals. She claimed that judges already had a list of the top five winners before they were officially announced and claimed the pageant was “fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent and in many ways trashy.” Trump sued in response.

After his victory was announced, Trump said, “We cannot allow a disgruntled contestant to make false and reckless statements which are damaging to the many people who have devoted their hearts and souls to the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageant systems.”
