When Donald Trump appeared before a sold out crowd in New York’s Madison Square Garden Saturday (April 6), he probably didn’t expect to be heavily booed. Trump appeared as a “celebrity inductee” in World Wrestling Entertainment’s annual Hall of Fame ceremony. The company was recognizing Donald’s contributions over the past three decades, including playing host to to the fourth and fifth installments of the “Wrestlemania” event at his Trump Plaza.
Before WWE Chairman Vince McMahon could even properly introduce Trump, the crowd began to boo. When he finally took the stage, the booing got louder. Throughout recounting his history with the company, and thanking them for what he calls his “greatest honor of all,” the crowd didn’t cut Trump a break.
Ivanka Trump, on the other hand, was well-received by the crowd, who cheered when she was shown on screen. “Finally, they like somebody from the Trump family,” Donald joked.
The following night, at “Wrestlemania,” the year’s inductees were introduced to a live crowd of over 80,000. While the other inductees received a warm reception from the giant crowd, Trump was again booed. It didn’t sour his mood, though. In a tweet sent the day after the ceremony, Trump called his induction “amazing.”
