dadt repealed lady gaga military 'Don't ask, don't tell' repealed: Lady Gaga and other celebrities react on Twitter

“Don’t ask, don’t tell” (DADT), a 17-year-old bill passed during the Bill Clinton Administration, which many believed represented a severe step back for gay rights and the civil rights movement has been repealed, according to the Washington Post.
“This victory belongs to all who fought to end #DADT,” tweeted President Barack Obama. “Let our allies in Congress know how grateful we are for their help.”
DADT, which forbid gay soldiers in the United States military from serving openly, was struck down in the U.S. Senate on Saturday, Dec. 18. It was a decisive vote of 65 to 31, with eight Republicans crossing the aisle to join 57 Democrats.
“Can’t hold back the tears+pride,” tweeted Lady Gaga, who had been using her pop star status to campaign for the bill’s repeal. “We did it! Our voice was heard + today the Senate REPEALED DADT. A triumph for equality after 17 YEARS.”
