dr drew pinsky gi Dr. Drew Pinsky says he's done with 'Celebrity Rehab'If VH1 does another edition of “Celebrity Rehab,” it will do so without Dr. Drew Pinsky.

In an interview on the Zach Sang and the Gang radio show, Pinsky says he doesn’t “have any plans to do that again,” largely because of the stress of the job.

“I’m tired of taking all the heat — it’s just ridiculous,” Pinsky says (the full interview is here; “Celebrity Rehab” talk starts about eight minutes in). “These are burdensome patients that I follow for long periods of time — we’re still kind of treating the rehab patients form last year. We treat them for a good six, nine months. … These are really sick people. That’s why they die.”

Five patients who have appeared on “Celebrity Rehab” have subsequently died, most recently country singer Mindy McCready earlier this year. Pinsky said at the time that he was no longer treating McCready.

“I’m tired. … It’s very stressful, it’s very intense for me,” Pinsky says of “Celebrity Rehab” and addiction medicine in general. “To have people questioning my motives and taking aim at me because people get sick and die because they have a life-threatening disease — if Rodney King has a heart attack I have to take the blame for that? That’s literally what’s happening these days. …

“Treating addiction is treating addiction, and we had a program that was second to none. We could handle anything … We were good — we did that for 20 years. That’s enough, I think.”
