EA is promising to deliver the next generation of blockbuster titles when the Xbox One and Playstation 4 hit store shelves. At the company’s pre-E3 press conference, COO Peter Moore unveiled two new game engines that EA is investing in, as well as 11 games that will come out over the next few years. “It’s truly a great year to be a gamer,” Moore said.

Though it didn’t get much of a trailer, the game announcement that got the most excited response from the audience was a new “Star Wars: Battlefront.” Developed by DICE, the short trailer boasted the best graphics that have been seen in a “Star Wars” video game. No release date was given for the licensed title, but the trailer did include the promise of an AT-AT.

From the “Need for Speed” movie teaser to the reveal of “NBA Live 14,” here’s a breakdown of the games and technologies EA unveiled at its E3 2013 press conference:

“Star Wars: Battlefront” and “Mirror’s Edge”
Like “Star Wars: Battlefront,” a new “Mirror’s Edge” also got a big teaser trailer during EA’s press conference that offered little information beyond the promise of great graphics. The trailer for the “Mirror’s Edge” title promised that it would come out “when it’s ready,” though at least fans can still rest easy knowing, as Moore said, “Faith is back.”

“Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare” and “Peggle 2”
PopCap had two big reveals at E3 this year: “Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare” and “Peggle 2.” “Plants vs. Zombies” is leaving the grid in “Garden Warfare,” moving away from the app style of the first game to bring a third-person shooter experience. EA previewed a four player co-operative survival mode called “Seeds of Destruction” during the press conference, taking classic characters like “Peashooter” and “Sunflower” and turning them into close-combat shooters and healers during the fight against the zombies, respectively. The graphics have been updated in this new game and feature the same aesthetic seen in the its recent trailer. As for “Peggle 2,” nothing was announced beyond the fact that the game is coming out.

The new EA title “Titanfull” got its first big E3 tease at the Microsoft press conference, so EA decided to show different side of the game during its media briefing. In a featurette aired during the event, the Respawn Entertainment team behind the game teased that “Titanfall” will have a single player feel even though it’s a multiplayer game. The Titan mechs are looked at as an evolution of battle tanks, and this game is Respawn’s attempt to redefine giant robots on screen. Players will have different perspectives and huds when they’re in pilot mode versus Titan mode. Respawn said “Titanfall” will end up feeling like two different games — one for the pilot versions of the characters, one for the Titans — integrated seamlessly together.

“Need for Speed: Rivals” and movie
A new “Need for Speed” game and movie are on the way. Called “Need for Speed: Rivals,” the title focuses on the rivalry between cops and racers. Though it can be played offline, a new “All Drive” online capability allows players to interact with one another in one massive world. In addition to the new game, EA also had Aaron Paul take to the stage to talk about the upcoming “Need for Speed” movie and show off the custom Ford Mustang that was made for him in the film. A behind-the-scenes featurette of the project showed director Scott Waugh talking about how his goal fo the movie is to bring audiences in to the thrill of the high-speed chase. The scene being shown in the video was of one such big chase sequence. The “Need for Speed” movie is due out in Spring 2014.

“Dragon Age: Inquisition”
Called the “next generation of RPGs,” a trailer for the new “Dragon Age” game, “Dragon Age: Inquisition,” premiered that brought back some familiar characters and some awesome new graphics. The game is expected out in Fall 2014.

“NBA Live 14,” “Madden 25,” “FIFA 14” and “EA UFC”
EA Sports made a solid showing at E3 in 2013. The four titles rolled out were “NBA Live 14,” “Madden 25,” “FIFA 14” and “EA UFC,” all of which took advantage of the new next-gen software available to them by adding frequently updated rosters, employing new technology to have the athletes in the games act more realistic and updating the graphics of the titles. On hand to promote “FIFA 14” was Drake, while EA also rolled out a new cover of “Madden 25” featuring Adrian Peterson.

“Battlefield 4”

“Battlefield 4” also was first teased at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, but EA upped the ante during its media event by showing off the game’s ability to have 64 people play the game at the same time. The company had 64 different players on stage at once playing one level together that ended with a skyscraper being destroyed. The team of 64 people will be playing all week with a live stream airing out of EA’s booth. “Battlefield 4” is designed so players can feel the “chaos of all-out war” on air, land and sea. It also is employing a new “Command” mode in which one commander can have a birds-eye view of the action and direct the troops on the ground.

EA Sports Ignore and Frostbite 3
In addition to the many games shown during the conference, EA also used the event to show off the two new gaming engines the company has invested in: EA Sports Ignite and Frostbite 3. Both of those engines will be used to design the next-gen games intended for the Xbox One and Playstation 4.
