Falco played Carmela Soprano, wife to Gandolfini’s mob boss, Tony Soprano, for six seasons on the critically acclaimed HBO show. In her statement to the media, Falco lauds the on-screen love story she shared with her beloved co-star. “The love between Tony and Carmela was one of the greatest I’ve ever known,” Falco says. “My heart goes out to his family, as those of us in his pretend one hold onto the memories of our intense and beautiful time together.”

Gandolfini passed away Wednesday (June 19) after suffering a heart attack while visiting Italy with his family. He was reportedly found alive by his 13-year-old son, Michael Gandolfini, and rushed to a local hospital. Following the news of his passing, HBO paid tribute to the star of its critically-acclaimed series by “going dark” on its website and social media pages, as well as airing a message at the end of “Sopranos” broadcasts.

Another former co-star, Jeff Daniels, praised Gandolfini for paving the way for other actors with his groundbreaking “Sopranos” role, telling Zap2it, “He broke rules.”
