Elizabeth Banks is famous for her work in sex comedies like “Zack & Miri Make A Porno” and “The 40 Year Old Virgin,” in which she depicts a bizarre sex scene in a bathtub, so if anyone knows why sex is funny, it’s her.
“Well, it’s a fairly ridiculous act,” she tells Esquire. “I
mean, let’s be honest: It’s a very primal thing that you’re doing and it
involves, you know — it’s what they call bumping uglies, which sort of
puts it in the right place. It’s a horrifyingly embarrassing act. It’s
the most vulnerable you can be as a person, I think.”
Banks, who stars in “Our Idiot Brother” alongside Paul Rudd, recently welcomed a baby boy, Felix, with her husband, Max Handelman. Being a mom puts a whole new spin on that “40 Year Old Virgin” scene.
“Yeah, can’t wait for my kid to see it! Um, no,” she says of the scene. “But I am never
embarrassed by something that makes people laugh. I knew that girl.
She’s a good-time girl who lives in the Valley — who works in the
bookstore — and goes to community college on the side, and is really
into funky stuff in the bedroom. Her entire outlook on life made perfect
sense to me.”
