By all accounts, Elizabeth Edwards was a forgiving woman. Though, is it really a surprise she left her husband, former vice presidential candidate John Edwards, out of her will?
The Wall Street Journal reports that Edwards, who passed away from breast cancer last December, appointed her eldest daughter, Cate Edwards, 28, as the executor of her will leaving all her possessions to Cate and her two other children: Emma Claire, 12, and 10-year-old Jack. Cate will also make the decisions on how to divide Edwards’ possessions for those who will become guardians to the two young children.
In the will signed just six days before her death, Edwards states, “all of my furniture, furnishings, household goods, jewelry, china, silverware and personal effects and any automobiles owned by me… to be divided among them with such equality and appropriateness as my Executor, in her sole discretion, shall determine.”
While John was at her side in her last days, we aren’t shocked that she makes no mention of him in her will. The couple announced their separation in January of last year after John admitted to fathering a baby while having an affair with Rielle Hunter.
In a rare interview last September on “The Nate Berkus Show,” Elizabeth Edwards spoke about whether she forgave her husband.
“Forgiveness is a hard word because I don’t know that I know everything yet,” says Edwards. “I may never know what really happened in my life, so it’s really hard to use a word like forgiveness but we found a new [way] of interacting with one another that is healthy – healthy for the kids – and really easy for us.”
We don’t blame her. Your thoughts?
