vince gilligan breaking bad cast emmy best drama Emmys 2014: 'Breaking Bad' takes Best Drama, Lead Actor and three more to end Emmy run

“Breaking Bad” went out on top at the 66th Emmy Awards. The critically-acclaimed drama earned the top honor of the night — Outstanding Drama Series — as well as Emmy awards for lead actor Bryan Cranston and supporting actors Anna Gunn and Aaron Paul. Moira Walley-Beckett also picked up a writing Emmy for her episode “Ozymandias,” bringing the show’s total Emmy wins for the evening up to five.

Showrunner and creator Vince Gilligan accepted the Outstanding Drama Series award on behalf of his cast and crew. “This is indeed a wonderful time to be on television. I think you all know that. We are all lucky to be working now,” Gilligan says. “I want to thank AMC and Sony and the best damn crew ever in Albuquerque, N.M. I want thank the best producers, the best cast, the best writers and directors. Of course Mr. Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Dean Norris — who couldn’t be here tonight — RJ Mitte, Betsy Brandt, thank you very much.”
Bryan Cranston also humbly accepted his award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He started his speech off with a shout-out to “True Detective” nominee Matthew McConaughey. “Even I thought about voting for Matthew,” jokes Cranston. He goes on to thank Vince Gilligan and the rest of the “Breaking Bad” family. “I did happen to stumble upon finding a passion that created a seed and bloomed into something so wonderful for me. I love to act. It is a passion of mine and I will do it until my last breath,” Cranston adds.
Before Cranston left the stage, he gave some empowering advice for all of those like him in his youth who sought out short cuts. “I’d like to dedicate this award to all the Sneaky Petes of the world who thought that maybe settling for mediocrity was a good idea because it was safe — don’t do it. Take a chance. Take a risk. Find that passion and rekindle it. Fall in love all over again, it’s really worth it.”
