jimmy fallon emmys 320 Emmys: Host Jimmy Fallon talks Twitter, Betty White and 'Robert Is Bothered'The 62nd annual Primetime Emmys may turn out to be historic for other reasons too, but they’ll also go into the record books as the first Emmys in which the introduction for a presenter is written via Twitter.

NBC and Emmy host Jimmy Fallon are asking fans to tweet suggested introductions for the presenters on Sunday’s (Aug. 29) Emmy telecast, using the hashtag #imontheemmys. He and his writers will comb through the submissions, and the best may get used during the show. It’s a variation on the recurring “Hashtags” segment Fallon uses on “Late Night.”

“I sat with some of my writers [and talked about] how we can make it interactive,” Fallon says. “We were going to have people tweet if they wanted to see a ‘Boy Meets World’ reunion, stuff like that. But certain people thought that was a little bit too extreme on one end. … You have to go kind of broad so everyone can join in on the fun and get creative.”

Fallon jokes that his hosting gig should be pretty easy, since “we’re going to do the exact same show Neil Patrick Harris did last year, word for word.” More seriously, he says that although he and his writers have several ideas to make the show entertaining, his primary job is to keep the pace of the show from lagging too much.

“The fact is it’s a room full of hundreds of your favorite television stars,” he says. “So my job as host is to make sure the show is exciting and entertaining and moves quickly for the people in the room, but also to put on a show for everyone at home. And everyone at home wants to see their favorite stars. So I want to get as many people involved as I can.”

Some other tidbits from Fallon’s talk with reporters:

Betty White, who won a guest-actress Emmy last weekend for hosting “Saturday Night Live,” will be in attendance and will probably be part of the broadcast, Fallon says: “Hopefully she’s not drunk. … It’s just a mess. We were out at a John Mayer concert the other night and it was just a mess getting her home. … She promised me she’s going to clean up her act.”

– The show will celebrate all of the past year in TV, he says, not just the nominated series. “I think it was a great year, whether it was new shows like ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Glee’ or shows going away like ‘Lost’ and ’24’ and ‘Law & Order,'” Fallon says. “There’s a lot to play with.”

– As far as we know, Robert Pattinson will not be attending the Emmys, but if he were, Fallon suspects he would be Bothered: “Why is it a red carpet? Why not green? … Why do we have to go outdoors in general? My skin sparkles in the sunlight.”

The Emmys air live coast to coast at 8 p.m. ET/5 PT on Sunday.
